Mx - and Mrs Walter Marks, of Sydney, and Mr J. Marks are in Christchurch. Among recent callers at the Christchurch Tourist Office are Mr and Mrs Scras© (Melbourne), Mr and Mrs P. A. Wedge (West Australia), Mr P. Atyeo (Tooradin, Victoria), Mr P. C. Smith (London), Mr T. F. Byrne (Toronto, Canada), Mr J. Lewis Edwards (Newlands, South Africa), and Mr A. S. Wallis (England). Among Wellington visitors to Christchurch are Mr A. Rounly, Mr H. Atwood, Mr T. W. Hcdd and Mr C. -A. Hickson. Mr‘and Mrs D. W. Custer are in Christchurch. ' Mr H. A. Parker arrived in Christchurch yesterday. Mr W. Stevens, of Sydney, is in Christchurch. Mr and Mrs Fordyco left for the south yesterday. Mr A. Grant has left Christchurch for the south. A private cable message to Dunedin reports the death at Johannesburg from enteric fever of Charles Peake, a member of the Ninth Contingent, and a grandson of the late Mr J. W. Jago. The Dunedin correspondent of this paper telegraphs that one of the earliest settlers of Hyde, Mrs Michael Prendergaet, died there on Sunday. Mr J. A. Hanan, M.H.R., arrived from Wellington by the e.a. Rotomahana yesterday morning. Captain. Rutter from the south by the e.s. Womrioo yesterday morning. Among the names, of the recipients of honours given' by the Balfour Ministry on its resignation, appears that of Mr Chas. F. Claverhouee Graham, who has been granted l a knighthood. Sir Caiverhouse is an uncle of Mr Charles H. E. Graham, headmaster of. tha Higbbaink Public School'. Sir Frederick Sutton, on© of Napier’s very earliest settlers, and formerly member for Napier, died., yesterday- Ha was in business as a storekeeper in the very early days, and afterwards - removed to Clive, where he carried on sheep farming for a number of years. Latterly he has had_ a commission agency business in Napier. He leaves’ a widow, on© son, and five daughters Referring to the transfer of Mr George Courts Moon, Dunedin; agent of the Government Tourist Department, to take charge of the branch office in Christchurch, the Dunedin “Star” isays:—“Mr Moon, who received very short notice of his removal, took with him the beet wishes of many friends. Mr ' Moon ope-nodi the -Dunedin Tourist Office on May 1, 1903, and) since that day his unfailing courtesy and obliging disposition have won him many friendships, and much approbation.
