SOUTHLAND WOOL SALES.

[Per Press Association.] INVERCARGILL, December 19. The first wool sale or the season began at 7.30 to-night. The offering was small, owing to broken weather and the sale being held earlier than usual. Two thousand one hundred and seventythree bales were catalogued. Sellers’ ideas of values were scarcely realised, but most elected to sell. Buyers said that the wool was not in as good condition as last year. Except for best, competition was not brisk. Sound farmers’ clips mad© 9Jd to lOd. Fine cross-bred touched Hid, strong crossbred 10£d, half-bred ewe HJd. The principal drop was in inferior wool. Prices were as good as those at Wellington on December 8, but lower than those at Christchurch last week.
