MELBOURNE, December 16
At the inquest on Miss Scanlon, the mother failed to throw any Jignt on tho tragedy. She said that she left her son and daughter talking amicably, and shortly after heard shots. She denied that her son absented himself from his liome on account of altercations, or on account of her refusal to supply him with funds.
(A young man named Scanlon, at Bendigo, quarrelled with his sister, and firod two or three shots at her from a revolver, with the result that she succumbed to her injuries. The girl stated it was her fault. Scanlon said ho intended to destroy himself, but his sister interfered, and he shot her. Scanlon has been arrested. Tho family came into prominence through coming into a large sum of money from tho Tyson estate. Scanlon has been morose and sullen for some time past.,)
