WOMEN’S CHRISTIAN TEMPERANCE UNION.
The annual meeting of the Christchurch branch of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union, for the election of officers, was held on Wednesday. The election resulted as follows:—President, Mrs Cole; recording secretary, Mrs Wicks;'corresponding secretary, Mrs Day; treasurer, Mrs W. H. Seed; vicepresidents, Mesdames M’Donald, Griffin, Lawry, Guy, L. M. Isitt, Ready, Field and W. S. Smith and Miss Roberts; superintendents of departments: drawing-room meetings, Mrs A. C. Newton; work among young people, Miss W. Smith; literature, Mrs Allan; legal and parliamentary, Mrs T. E. Taylor; purity, Mrs Whitcombs; scientific temperance instruction, Miss Roberts; visitors to Jubilee Home, Mee--1 dames Pedler, Marks and Thompson; representatives on the Children’s Aid Committee, Mesdames Field and Ballantyne and. Miss Gordon; Press work, Mrs Sheppard, Miss Roberts and Mrs Cole. It was resolved — 1 ‘ That this Union desires to place on record its gratitude to Almighty God, for the success accorded to the cause of reform throughout New Zealand, by the largely increased vote cast for no-license at the last local option poll.” It was ' decided to send a telegram of congratulation to the Rev F. W. Isitt, on the increased no-license vote. The balance-sheet for the temperance booth on the show ground, read by the treasurer, showed that, in spite of the unfavourable weather, the Union had cleared all expenses, and had a sufficient sum in hand to pay off the Union’s indebtedness. A vote of thanks ■ was passed to the. retiring officers. ;
