Mr Burnett, inspecting engineer of the working railways, is in Christchurch. He. is making a tour of the Canterbury lines. Colonel Loveday arrived from Wellington by ..the s.s. Rotomahana yesterday morning. Dr Donaldson and Captain M’Nair arrived from the south by the s.s. Maheno yesterday morning. Lord Ranfurly, formerly Governor of New Zealand, has joined the London Board of Directors of. the Colonial Mutual Life Assurance Society, Limited, in succession to the Hon Sir Robert G. W. Herbert, who died-on May 6. , The death is announced of Mrs F. J. Cumber worth, who died at Ngaire, after a short illness. The deceased lady had many friends at Southbrook and Rangiora, where her husband was headmaster of the State school. ■.
