THE COMMITTEES AT WORK. _Mr G. Hogben, Secretary for.Education,_ has written te the secretary of the Exhibition stating that his Department is prepared to take steps to provide an exhibit representative of recent educational methods, especially of tho work ,of classes for manual and technical instruction in connection with primary, secondary, and technical schools, with ; particular reference to subjects that are taught and are likely to bo taught_ in flip schools of this colony. Tho Hi'pi Commissioner haa been asked "to take the necessary preliminary steps to ob- ! tain suitable specimens of tho work in ! England and America as well as in one ;or two countries in Europe. Tho Dcpartmont will also bring the matter ; under the notice of the educational au- | thorities in Australia, and of all coni trolling authorities of classes for manual p.nd technical instruction in Now Zealand. Mr Hogben haa asked to bo in- : formed what space will bo available for ..the exhibit. i Tho letter was considered at a meeting of the. Homo Industries Committee on Thursday, when it was decided to reply stating that the committee was pleased to learn, that tho Department was taking the matter up so enthusiastically. It decided that a space of 36ft by 26ft should be reserved for the exhibit. v. The committee dealt with other subjects, and affirmed the desirableness of setting up sub-committees in other centres to co-operate in connection with the home industries section. Mr E. C. Brown was added to the sub-committee, which was empowered to add ladies when dealing with exhibits iu which ladies’ assistance will bo useful. A letter from Mr A. M. Owen, suggesting that there should be an exhibit of metric measures, was referred to the Schedule Sub-committeo. At a meeting of the Photography Committee, a draft circular was submitted to a sub-ccmmittee, for revision, if necessary, and rules affecting competitions and exhibits were considered, and good progress was mado. _ The next meeting of the committee will bo hold j on September 7» at 7.45 p.m.
