LAND FOR SETTLEMENTS.

[Per Press Association.] HOKITIKA, June 22. Sis thousand acres of first and second class laud in tho Westland district, lease-in-pcrpetuity, were dealt with today. There was a groat rush for the land, as many as over two hundred applications being received for some of the sections. Tho total number of applications was 214.6. A large number of applicants were present at tho ballot, which had to bo taken at the Supreme Court, tho accommodation at tho land office, being too restricted. All the sections wore taken up.
