No official intelligence has been received about the loss of the Pacific cable for the year, but the English papers state it at £BB,OOO. Sir Horace Toser, a member of the Cable Board, who has been inquiring into matters connected ~ith the Pacific cable while visiting Australia, has come to the conclusion that the loss can only be lessened by pushing the business in Australia and other places served by the cable.
