MARKET REPORTS.

GRAIN AND PRODUCE.

The excited condition of the world s wheat markets, consequent upon the Japan-cse-Russ:an War, has been reflected locally by increased firmness on the part of farmers, and millers, who are still buying freely, have been compelled to again raise their limits. Mixed lines, suitable for milling, command 5s per bushel at a country station, and a good line of Pearl would 1 probably bring Id per | bushel more. Recent sales ha,vc been:—2ooo bushels of Tuscan, Hunter's and Pearl at 3s per bushel at a lid station ; 3000 bushels Hunter’s and Tuscan at 2 S lid at li-d station ; 300 bushel. Hunter’s, and 300 bushels Tuscan at ss; and other lines at corresponding prices. The position in Dunedin is summarised by the Otago “Daily Times” of Tuesday thus: —“In consequence of tho rise in Lie wheat market, the Dunedin millers tins morning decided to raise the local price of flour 10s per ton. The New Zealand Flourmillers’ Association’s tariff now stands as follows :-- S acks, £9 10s; 100’s, £lo;.so’s, £lO 5s • 25’s, £lO 10s. Tho shipping price is unaltered at £8 15s f.o.b. The cabled news concerning tho excitement in tno Chicago wheat market, coupled with the intelligence that Russia, had ceased exporting wheat to Germany, has had a further finiiiurr effect upon the local wheat market. Millers have eagerly taken all the new wheat offering, and at the present time there is a difficulty in procuring samples. Somewhere between 10,000 and 12,000 sacks of new wheat have been taken by local millers within the past two or three weeks. ■ the market is now distinctly excited, and, m the absence of offerings, quotations are only nominal, but there is a general impression that farmers will incline to await developments, rather than rush their grain upon the market. To-day’s quotations range from 5s 3d f.0.b.. Lyttelton for mixed Unes-ab which rate it is reported taat sales have been made-to 2s lid for Hunters, 2, for Tuscan, and 3s for pearl, on trucks Ashburton.” . , There is a. teen inquiry from tuc JNmtU Island for oats, but, so far, the offerings have been much too low to enable local merchants to do business. The effect of the inquiries lias been to give, a firmer tone to the m lother lines there is no change to report, though cocksfoot is said to be a trifle •easier.
