The Arauri Mounted Rifles will complete their shooting season on Saturday, with the competitions for the Mendip Cup, Lance Shield (field-firing) , and Mr Thomson’s prize for those members who fired in the, preliminary matches hut failed to qualify for the Mendip mutch., Tho competition for the Mendip Challenge Cup will commence at 9 a.m. ; that for Mr Thomson’s trophy will follow' immediately tho Cup match is concluded, and the Lance Shield contest will be commenced at 2.30 p.m. Three preliminary matches have been fired, for which two prizes were awarded. One, the Ladies’ Challenge Cup, for the highest aggregate, was won by SergSant Lister, and the other, presented by Major Chaffer, for the best aggegate at 200yds, in the three shoots, was woii by Lance-Corporal Willis, with a total of 96 out of a possible 105. A general meeting of the corps will be held on Saturday evening, at th© drill hall, at seven o’clock.

On Saturday the Christchurch Defence Rifle Club completed the shooting for th© championship for this season. Rifleman W. C. Jackson won from Rifleman T. Robinson by lour points in the aggregate.. The Canterbury Engineers held a parade on Saturday afternoon, when there was an attendance 'of fifty-eight members, under Captain Jones and Lieutenants Andrew's and’ Luttrell. Tho bridging section, under Sergeants Johnston and Willoughby, constructed over tho Avon frames for a double-lock bridge, launched some of the frames, and connected with distance pieces. The electrical section, under Sergeant Bradley, constructed a telephone to.communicate between the bridge and the orderly-room, and the signalling section, under Lieutenant Andrews, put in. good practice, signalling being carried on between New Brighton, and a point on the.l’orfc Hills.
