[Per Press Association’.] WELLINGTON, January 22. The Board of Governors of tho New Zealand Institute concluded its sitting to-day. It was resolved that the attention of tho Government should be called to' tho importance of investigation of tho fauna and flora of New Zealand and the islands, and its' preservation as far as possible. The Board passed a resolution expressing regret at Sir Janies Hector’s retirement from the active ma’nagement of its affairs, and placed on record its high appreciation of the eminent cervices rendered by him to the Institute and to science in New Zealand.
