CANTERBURY HALL.
■••' CALEDONIAN SOCIETY'S . CONCERT. The "Scot's weather" notwithstanding, the Caledonian Society's concert was well attended, and was thoroughly enjoyable. Its object was the augmenting of the Pipe Band fund, and by its two selections the band showed the worthiness of that object. The items which evoked the wildest enthusiasm were the Scotch dances, audi of these none-was more deservedly popular than a " Foursome. Reel," charmingly danced by the Misses Jean Campbell and Kuini Marshall and Masters Kinloch, Campbell and Arnie Sturrock. Misses A. Ourrie and J. Hopping danced a sword dance, and Miss Rita Glover a Highland fling, and a Reel o' Tulloch was danced by Misses A. Currie and' J. Hopping and Messrs A. Blunt and C. S. Bell, Piper Hopping playing the dance music- A number of tableaux, illustrated by songs, attracted^notice. "Caller Herrin" and "John Anderson, my Jo," for which the solos were sung by Miss Emma Rowley, were the best of a series of realistic "living pictures." The other tableaux given were "As Jean Sat at Her Spinning Wheel," with solo by Mrs C. M. Brooke; "When the Eye Come Hame" and "Where tiath Scotland Found Her Fame," with solos by Mr A. Millar; and "Oh, Can Ye Sew Cushions?" with Miss Emma Rowley as soloist. \ Mrs Brooke also sang "We'd Better Bide a Wee," and Mr P. Hockley sang " Bird of the Wilderness" and " All tho°Blue Bonnets over the Border." Miss Jeannio Black "and Mrs Donald M'Lean played delightful piano solos and Dr and Mrs Crooke played a duet, which was thoroughly enjoyable. 'The accompanists were Mrs"M'Lean and Miss Black. At an interval in the proceedings the President of the Society, Mr Pat Campbell, expressed the thanks of the Society to Mrs M'Lean for.the excellent concert she had arranged, and to the audience for the liberal manner in which it had assisted the band fund.
