The Court of Directors of the Royal Humane Society met yesterday afternoon; present—Lieutenant-Colonel Slater, . the Rev W. S. Bean, Dr Russell, Superintendent Smith, Mr J. A. Frosticfc and Captain Linn (secretary). Applications for awards for bravery were dealt with. James Knowles, jun., Napier, was awarded a gold medal, the first issued by the Society. Barron (Ellerslie); an in fiemoriam certificate to the relations of vair-Jacobus Hoihy, who was drowned in, Attempting a rescue at Gisborne; ,-v certificate on vellum to Arthur Shap'ton Richards tGisborne); an ordinary certificate to Robert Hull (Christchurch); a special let-, jer of commendation to Captain W. D. Reid (Auckland); letters of commendation lo Elizabeth.
