ROYAL HUMANE SOCIETY.
The Court of Directors of the Royal Humane Society met yesterday afternoon; present—Lieutenant-Colonel Slater, . the Rev W. S. Bean, Dr Russell, Superintendent Smith, Mr J. A. Frosticfc and Captain Linn (secretary). Applications for awards for bravery were dealt with. James Knowles, jun., Napier, was awarded a gold medal, the first issued by the Society. On previous occasions he had received a certificate, a silver medal and a silver clasp. Vae-vae-D-rqnga,. .Cook Islands, was awarded a River clasp, in addition to- the silver medal Loalready holds. Silver medals wore awarded to Constable Leonard J. Cookery Wellington), Charles Hirawani (Te Aroia), Frederick Krega-r (Waverley) and Charles Hansen (Gisborne); bronze medals to Richard .Cassidy (Invercargill), Matthew Bennie (Brunnerton) and Walter William Hurley Northcoto (Auckland) ; framed certificates to Hannah M. Mosley (Stirling) and Emily R. Barron (Ellerslie); an in fiemoriam certificate to the relations of vair-Jacobus Hoihy, who was drowned in, Attempting a rescue at Gisborne; ,-v certificate on vellum to Arthur Shap'ton Richards tGisborne); an ordinary certificate to Robert Hull (Christchurch); a special let-, jer of commendation to Captain W. D. Reid (Auckland); letters of commendation lo Elizabeth. Ferrier (Fairfax), Constable A- Skinner (Auckland), Constable James Cahill (Auckland), James Kane (Tknaxu) ftnd .Mary Khouri (Christchurch). , It was resolved that the Chairman and Dr Russell should bo a committee to artanga for the nomination, of vice-patrons.
