BOARD OF GOVERNORS.

The Canterbury College Board of Governors met on Monday afternoon; ■ present —Bishop Julius, Dr Erwin, the Hon W. Montgomery, and Messrs 0. Opie, A. E. G. Rhodes, G. W. Russell, T. W.'Adamsj H. J. Beswick, J. L. Scott, C.-C. Corfe* C. Lewis, T. S. Poster, W. H. Montgomery, J. G. L. Scott, and T. Hughes.. Apologies were received for the absence of Bishop Grimes and Mr C. Reid. The Registrar explained that the meeting wa,s a special one for the purpose of ap-. pointing a chairman in place of Mr T. S. Weston. •

Mr Rhodes was appointed to the position on the motion of Mr Russell, seconded by, Mr Opie. Mr Rhodes stated that he would hold the position only until June, when the statutory election of a chairman will take place. Ordinary business was then taken., .

The Secretary of Education wrote concerning the conditions under which £IOO, should be banded over for the Thomas Idler prize. The letter was referred to the Finance and College Committees. The Chairman moved that the question of the Board paying off in such terms' as may be deemed expedient the sum of £6260 out of the regular annual income accruing to the College, such sum-being the amount of the award of the Supreme Court fixed as due to Canterbury Agricultural College in June, 1897, should be inferred to the Finance Committee. '

The Hon W. Montgomery seconded ’ the motion, which was carried. ■

The College Committee made the follow* ing recommendations : —That Mrs Cora' V. Longton, M.A., should ba’appointed an assistant teacher at the Girls’ High at a salary at the rate of £llO per annum* lief duties to commence on Feb. lj 1903;', that the College time-table of lectures fon the academical year 1903, as submitted by. Die Professorial Board, should be adopted ;j that, in view of the changes in the chemi-* cal laboratory, Mr Harold Larkin’s connection -with the College should be terminated* and that be should be paid his salary t» Feb. 28, 1903 ; that the College Committee should be authorised to arrange for the appointment of lecturers for 1903.
