The s.a. Tproa arrived from tho Chatham Islands late -on Friday night. Her trip to the Islands was uneventful. On Saturday the s.s. Corinna arrived from Timaru, Oamaru, and Dunedin at 5.40 a.m.,,tho s.s. Moura from Dunedin at 7.45 a.m., the s.s. Rotomahana from AYellington at 7.30 a.m. and the s.a. AYaihora from Sydney, via east coast ports, at 10.15 a.m. The AYellington “ Post ” states that Mr A. R. Pryde, of Dunedin, has passed his examination at AVellington as second mate. Ho studied at Gifford’s Navigation School.

The “ Hew Zealand Gazette ” contains notice that a red buoy, having a conical upper end, and carrying a staff and ball painted red, has been laid down, at a depth of 341 tat low water, distant G£ cables S.S.E. of the Hope Shoal buoy, 'Wellington Harbour. The following magnetic bearings give the position of the buoy;—Poncarrow lighthouse, S. 3deg E; Somes Island Lighthouse, N. 15deg W; Beacon Hitt Signal Station, S. 34deg A V.J A staff and ball has been fixed on the head of the Hope Shoal buoy, which lies in a depth of 30ft at low water. Masters of vessels entering or leaving the port steering close to, and to westward of, these buoys will bo in deep water. , The Huddart-Parkcr s.s. Westra’ia left Melbourne for Lyttelton direct pn Friday last at 2 p.m. Captain Rainey is in command, Captain Waller having been promoted! to the command of-the new s.s. Victoria. Mr Chambers, late purser of the Eiingamite, is under orders to join the Wesiralia-' as purser on her arrival hero on Wednesday next. The 5,3.' Rotomahana is to run an excursion trip to Akaroa to-morrow, leaving Lyttelton on arrival or the 7.55 a.m. train from Christchurch.

Yesterday the s.s. Pukaki arrived from Westport at 5 a.m., 'the s.s. Eangatiaa from Timaru at 0 a.m., and the s.s. Tarawera from Wellington at 12.45 p.m. The s.s. Cygnet mil 1 leave for Akaroa this evening after the arrival of. the 5.30 p.m. train from Christchurch. - 7

iII.M.S. Archer is to leave for Akaroa early this morning. It is expected that she will return to Lyttelton on, Saturday next. The s.s. Toroa loft for Napier via Timaru at 4 .p.m. yesterday. Tho s.s. Cygnet arrived from Cheviot and Kaikoura at 6.35 p.m. on Saturday. She brought nine passengers. On Saturday tho s.-s. Corimval left for AVellington, Westport and Greymouth at 5,10 p.m., the s.s.
