SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
At the last meeting of the Lyttclton Borough School Committee it was announced that the Board of Education had agreed to renovate the interior of the school buildings during the Christ-mas .holidays, and had granted leave of absence to. Miss Wood, pupil teacher, 'to enable her to- attend the New Zealand University matriculation examination,, .and leave, of absence for two months to, Miss Dickenson on account -of ill-health. . The headmaster reported that tho • average daily'attendance for last month was 402, the highest attendance during the month 424, and the number on the roll 482. The committee decided to give the children a picnic, and to present special prizes, to bo given out on Dec. 24, when the school will break up for the holidays. It was resolved to isend a letter of condolence to the relatives of the late Mr John Ross. The Rev A. IT. Treaidwell and Mr S. R. TV-abb were appointed as a Visiting Committee for tho month. The monthly meeting of the Templeton School Committee was held on Monday evening ; present—Mr G. P. Kissel chairman)! C. Benjamin, G. Witty, G. W. Lucock, ¥. 8. Maddison and G. Mangin. The Chairman complimented Mr G. Witty on his election to the House of Representatives. Ths master's report showed the number on the roll to be- 93, and the- average attendance 82. ATirang'ements were made for the annual picnic to Sumner on Dec. 11. Votes of thanks were passed to all who 'had helped lo make the school concert a success. It was decided to break up the school for the Christmas holidays on Dec. 19 for five weeks, prizes to be given to all who have passed their respective standards on the afternoon of tho school closing. Othe- matters were attended to, and the meeting clcsed. A moating of t*!ie Weedon School Committer was held on Monday evening ; present —Messrs Belli (chairman), Jones, Cnr-ry and Hack. The .teacher's report was read, .which showed the attendance, to be most unsatisfactory. Jt was decided to close the school on Dee. 19 for the Christmas holidays, opening again on Feb. 2. 1903. It was also decided to purchase nrizes. Accounts to the amount of £3 2s 6cl were passed for payment. The committer resolved to have the boundary fence adjoining Mr Manion's put in repair at once. Tin 1 meeting then rose. Th? monthly meeting- of the Belfast School Committee was held on Monday evening; presenr—Messrs E. Thompson (chairman). .M'Quella.ii. Napier. Tisch, Richards, 'Morgan and Sncncer. The master's renort was received for the four weeks ending Deo. 5. the average attendance behi£r 218.2, with 270 on tho roll. It was decided to issue summonses against a few of the parents for their children's non-attendance. Tt was as-reed to close th* school for the holidays from Dec. 24 to Feb. 2. Messrs Napier and Tisoh. were reappointed a visiting committee for tho month.
