The “ Chronicle,” commenting on the Blue Book, says that the broad .grounds on which Sir Chamberlain upholds the/ Commonwealth Parliament on the Kanaka question imply (that the self-governing colonies are practically independent of the Motherland! in everything except defence. The “ Standard! ” says that, real as j the difficulty is, there is no excuse for Queensland seceding from the Commonwealth.
