IMPERIAL DEFENCES.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—l think we ought to keep a sharp look-out on Mr Seddon while at Home. It is well-known that he has extreme opinions on Imperialism, and he is an advocate of the aggressive foreign policy of England. Such a meddlesome policy sooner or later will involve us in a terrible war. I do sincerely trust that we will never allow our fair colony to become a recruiting ground to support a warlike foreign policy, suoh as is in the ascendant just now. Just look at the millions that have been spent on war in the Soudan and South Africa by the Tory party in England, and yet these }ingos cannot see their «way to grant pensions to the aged and infirm. I hope we will have a more profitable use for our young men than soldiering as we do not want the curse of militarism in our happy land.—l am, etc., OBSERVER.
