The matter was referred to the' Board's architecb with a view of steps being taken to remedy the matter. At a meeting of the Charitable Aid Eoard the secretary drew attention to the fact that there were certain practically incurable cases in the hospital that might well 'bo removed to the Costley Home, where the cost of their maintenance would not reach half the amount, if there was only Toom at the latter institution. The Costley Home was, in a -congested state at present, and it was necessary that something should be done to meet these- cases. The matter was allowed to drop. At a meeting of the Auckland Benevolent' Society the balance-sheet showed that the receipts during the year amounted to £l6lO, including a, legacy of £IOOO received froan the executors of the late William Arrowsmith, £SO in collections and donations, and £556 in Government subsidies, the principal subsidy being £SOO on the Arrowstnith bequest. The sum of £725 •was disbursed during the year, leaving a credit of £795 at the end of March. The Chairman'said 1 that there was no doubt #hat the society would have to make a call on the public in November next. The expenditure was £6O or £7O a month. The Rev W. E.
