SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
A special meeting of the Kaiapoi School Committee was held on Thursday evening, when there.was.a good attendance. The Chairman said that' the meeting had been called mainly to decide what special holidays should be allowed on account of Coronation Day, and to arrange for tree-plant-ing, etc. The Chairman also read the Inspector's report on the last examination, which gave credit to the whole of the teaching staff. It was decided, on the motion of Messrs Ellen and Clark, that the committee's thanks should be forwarded to the head-master and his staff. Letters were received and read from the Secretary of the Board of Education regarding a New Zealand flag for the school. The usual monthly meeting of the Richinond School Committee was held in the schoolroom on Wednesday; present— Messrs Paull (chairman), Cardwell (treasurer), Ward (secretary), Shaw, Potter, Richards, Hi'llson and" Hughes. THe Treasurer reported that the debit balance on the incidental fund was £29 19s lOd. The Works Committee reported that the screenings for the playground had been ordered. A letter was received from the North Canterbury Education Board in answer to a resolution) passed at the annual meeting of 'householders " affirming the desirability of enlarging the Richmond school boundaries," informing the- committee th»t\ if it will supply the Board with a tracing showing the proposed new boundaries, together with a- petition from the residents interested, the Board will five the matter its best attention. The Board also wrote confirming the appointment of Charles Allard as pupil teacher. It was decided to grant the school 'ono week's holiday in commemoration of the Coronation. The headmaster's report showed that the attendance, although interfered with by the weather, is still good, the present roll number-being. 611, and the averago attendance for the past four weeks 548.4. During the month magic lantern entertainmenite.were held in aid of the Library Fund, and twelve new pictures were added to the school collection.
