A letter from Miss Hood-Williams, advocating tho establishment of a Commemoration Day, in memory of New Zealander's who have fallen while figl'nng fsr the pire, has been considered by the Appointments Committee of the Education Board. In view of the fact that peace has not yeb bceii declared, and of tho probability that the Imperial authorities will inaugurate a ; Commemoration Day, the committee has reported that it cannot at present recommend tho course advocated by Miss HoodWilliams, though thanking her for her sug- ■ ; gestion. ■ The report was adopted by th» ■ Board this morning. A “ welcome home social ” given by the residents of Leithfield Co Corporal John Brydou, of the Sixth Contingent, Was held in the Public Hall, Leithfield, on Monday evening. There was a very large gathering. During the evening Mr G. A. MLean, ou behalf of the residents, presented ths guest with a gold albert and pendant, suitably inscribed; Musical items were eon-- , ® tributed, and a pleasant evening was spent.
