CANTERBURY v. OTAGO,

There was again a fair sprinkling of spectators at Hagley Park on Saturday to witness 'the conclusion of the match between Canterbury and Otago, and their enthusiasm was rewarded by seeing an interesting hour and a half's cricket. The wicket was in first-class order, and at no stage of the match did it play better. Shortly after two o'clock the Otago team took the field. The not-out Canterbury men, Callaway and Lawrence, both batted freely and confidently. Neither Fisher nor Downes kept the runs down, and the score mounted quickly. Callaway played a watchful innings, and made a number of neat off-drives and cuts. Unfortunately, when well se't, a mis-hit saw him caught at point. Garrard, who followed, played , steadily, while , Lawrence continued to score. The latter was playing pretty cricket, his driving and cutting being firstclass. He was particularly severe on Fisher, getting him through the field again and again. The left-hander was finally replaced by Monk. The separation, however, came from the other end, Lawrence hitting Downes straight up, and being caught by the wicket-keeper. Boxshall was at once well caught in the slips, and the visitors were left victors by 122 runs. The contributions at the gates amounted to £ll 12s. Mrs Hobson and Mrs Wigley dispensed afternoon tea.The following are the details of the score: OTAGO. . First Innings. J. Baker, 2, c Frankish b Sims . . 2 A. Gecldes, 1, b Callaway .... 1 G. C.
