ROAD BOARDS.
SPRINGS. *■ ' The. monthly meeting of tie Springs Road Board was held on Friday ; present— Messrs "Wolfe (chairmJan), Kimber, Murray ind Marshall. Mr Enoch Hamilton waited on the Board, complaining of a nuisance caused by a neighbour's caittle grazing on the road fronting his land. The ranger's attention wag ordered to be called to the matter. Mr G. Jameson interviewed the Board in reference to the diversion of {Jould's road. The road being so little ised ctr required, tie Board thought it adfisable to close it rather than be at_ ainy ;reat expense in making or purchasing an Jutlefc. To this Mr Jameson agreed, but, is part of tbedand had recently been sold *n each side of the road, it was decided to "seertain .the purchasers' views on the matter, and, if there were no objections, to lake steps to close the road. MrT. Henley, fun., also waited on the Board, asking fjermissioni to make an open crossing on uhand's road. The matter was referred to ' he clerk to meet and arrange with Mr lenley. Mr Henley also asked! permission o plough), the side of Taylor's accommoda.ion road to destroy gorse, which request was granted on the usual conditions. The Selwyn County Council wrote in reference ■fjo the Hospital and Charitable Aid rate, etating that as the Council had to pay its contributions monthly, the Council would be glaid! to receive the Board's share as soon as possible. It was decided to forward the board's share, £270 19s Id, as soon as sufficient funds were in hand, and as the 10 per cent penalty would soon be added, the Board 'anticipated early payment of rates now outstanding. A petition, was received from residents of Blandsville asking the Board to remove the obstruction from one portion of the Leeston, road drain. It was decided to inform the petitioners that while the Board did not wish to prevent anyone from getting water, it could not see its way to remove'the dam in question. The overseer's report was considered, and it was decided to fence Res. 3537, to ■ give notice that a certain road on the Lake ■was unfit for vehicle, traffic, that the. 10 per ' cent- penalty would be added to all rates not paid on Jan. 24 next. £25 was passed as first instalment for purchasing heads and eggs of small birdis. Routine business was don* and the Board rose. •
