Drunkenness.—Two first offenders were /.wed each. 5s and costs.—Minnie Bench and Neils Ludwig were fined 10s and costs, /with tihe usual alternative. Obscene Language.—Alfred Lester denied having used obscene language in Tuam Street on Monday night. He stated that all he had done was to express liis appreciation of the. Opera Housa .enterla.inm.ent rather strongly, and, as this wag corroborated by a witness who had been. w:!tb accused, he was discharged- Sub-Inspector Black pointed, out to the Magistrate the difficulty a constable'had while making an arrest, in securing witnesses. Mr Bishop said that if psople 'heard obscene language used in the sheets ttay should ba ready to como forward and give evidence to stop the nuisance.

Breach- of the .Stamp Act.—George Shumy (Mr Cassidy) pleaded guilty to having signed a receipt for £2 without affixing the necessary stamp. The Shop'Act.—James Edmund pleaded guilty to having failed) to close his shop cm the afternoon of Thursday, Sept. 19 and was fined 20s and 1 coats.

Alleged Theft.—William . Brunsden (Mr Joynt) was charged with having stolen various sums amounting to £6 3s od, the property of bis employers, Maine Brothers (Mr Weston). His duties had included the payment of wages. Employees were in the habit of purchasing goods on credit, the amount being stopped out of their wages, and it was alleged that accused had failed to account for moneys so stopped. Evidence was given by. a number of the factory hands who had paid small sums which did'not appear on the books. The evidence for the prosecution occupied the-whole of the afternoon, and a large number of documents were handed in. An adjournment was then granted, to enable Mr Joynt to look through the evidence preparatory to stating the defence.

RANGIORA. Tuesday, Oct. 1.. (Before Mr E. R. Good, J.P., Mr W. C. Fendall, J.P., and Mr C. I. Jennings, .J'.P.) Stone-throwing.—Bertie Watson, a small boy, was charged' with, having broken a window in 'tihe Southbrook Scboolhouse, value 4s. The offence was admitted. Annoyances of this and a similar kind had been complained of at Southbrook. The Bench ordered the boy to pay the 4s for the damage, and dismissed him with a caution. Cycling Without a Light.—M. Hume, charged with this offence, was lined ss, with 7s costs. . Civil Cases.—The following casies were adjourned! for a week:—J. W. Swift (Mr Johnston) v. G. Milne (Mr Bishop), claim £10; John Hanna (Mr. Jdhnsfcon) v. B. H. Hemmirigs (Mr Bruges), claim £65 4s sd, paid into Court £23 8s sd.
