THE FISH SUPPLY.
TO TIIK EDITOR. Sir,—“Ratepayer's; ” remarks are only too.true regarding fabulous prices, sinister aims and monopolies. C. . T. Sullivan’s energy to show .that, the public will not attend fish auctions is worthy of- a better cause. Who wilt attend the auctions as at present named on? Are the surroundings and language such as to court the purchasing public? In all traffics where.wholesale and retail clash,'monopolies occur. At present the vendor who professes.to serve the public lias to compete in purchasing with those whose aim it is to control the' supply arid command those fabulous prices now ruling, and while bur fish-hawkers to; meet that monopoly, tile possibility reasonable .fish vending is very far dista|% The whole .system and machinery of first sale must be altered before the hawking vendor, and! the requiring public, can be adequately served. This fish • supply can
be worked', but not under existing conditions; conditions that, until changed, defied the London fish supply.—l am, etc., W.D.H.
