SYDENHAM WATER SUPPLY.

TO THE EDITOE. Sir, —Will you kindly allow me to rectify an error in your reports of my remarks at the public meeting held to consider' the above question? In referring to the feasibility of the scheme', I pointed cut 'that we need' not go outside of New Zealand to illustrate that point, as at Blenheim their method for lire .prevention!, which hiaa proved very successful, ia to pump the water direct into, the mains. At Invercargill! they have a water tower, the waiter from which is used for domestic purposes and for fire prevention. The enginiES pump direct into tho mains, ths force and supply of water being splendid. Referring to the sanitary benefits of the scheme, I mentioned the great improvement that would be made dm the condition, of Jackson’s Greek and the side channels in the dry portions of the borough by frequent flushings, which now can only be dome through the medium of the water-cart, which is both costly and inefficient. Thanking you for enabling me to put my self right and to make my remarks more coherent.—l am, etc., JNO. HADFIELD. Sydenham, August 24, 1901.
