CHRISTCHURCH. Saturday, August 24. (Before Mr H. W. Bisliop, S.M.) Drunkenness.-— John Gilbert was fined 103 and caste, in default forty-eight hours’ imprisonment.—Two first offender’s, one of whom 'did not appear, were each fined 10a and 6s and costs.-—Mary She-edy, a young girl, admitted having been found drunk in Manchester Street, on Friday night. In answer to the Magistrate’ a gentleman interested in rescue work stated that the ghi was incorrigible. _ She had been in every rescue home in Christchurch, and was hardly responsible for Tier actions. She was fined 20s and costs, in default seven days’ imprisonment.

RANGIORA. Saturday, August 24. (Before Mir E. R- Good, J.P., and Mr C. I. Jennings, J.P.) _ Assault, etc. —Henry E. Irving, an elderly man, was Charged with having assaulted G. W. Pearce, licensee of the Ashley Hotel, and with having used obscene language in a public place. Accused pleaded guilty. It appeared from evidence that he went to the hotel in a perfectly sober condition, had no drink in the house, and on being refused 1 a shakedown, threw three or four glasses at the licensee, one of which cut hi® arm. He also, with a glass in his hand, chased Mr Pearce into the kitchen, and severely kicked him- On being put out (into the road, he made use of the language complained of. Accused was sentenced to seven days imprisonment on each charge.
