SOUTH CANTERBURY PLOUGHING MATCH.

There was a A-ery fair attendance .at tho South Canterbury Ploughing Match at Orari on Thnrad'ay. Toe ploughing was considered bolter than previous competitions in the district. 'Messrs Richard living (Albury), John Patterson (Totara) and Kennedy (Temuka), were judges. There was very keen competition for the championship, and riiasl of the finishes were good. At the close a dinner was given at Quirk© s Hotel, at AVhich there aMs -a large attffndance of settlers and others. ' Mr A. W. Ensor presided, and an iriteresling toast list was gone through. In reply to the health of the judges, Mr Patterson spoke very -highly of the match, saying that the ploughing was as good as any he had sosn anywhere. He avbs of opinion that there should bo .three ploughing matches every year—one in each county—and a cham»ion match once in three years.
