ENTERTAINMENTS.

On Thursday night an entertainment given by the Merivale Dramatic Society, in aid of the Rangiora Church of England repairs fund, attracted a large audience to the Institute Hall. Under the management of Messrs Virtue the performance passed off most successfully. The programme consisted of pianoforte music, tableaux, character and descriptive songs, and comediettas ; and the performers were Messrs Virtue, Misses Wallace, K. Wood, Stringer, Vale, Winstone, Wilson, Virtue, R. Phillips, Carter, Dobson, and I. Scott, Messrs E. Latter, L. Winstone, and C. Cooper, and Masters W. Good and A. Virtue. Before the National Anthem the Rev F. P. Pendall thanked the performers for their kind services and the audience for their liberal patronage. A crowded house again greeted) the rising of th© curtain at the Opera House last night, when Dix’s Gaiety Company repeated their previous night’s programme. All the principal performers were repeatedly encored, and the graceful dancing of the Dart os was universally admired.
