RETURNS FOR THE JUNE QUARTER. [Feom Our Correspondent.] WELLINGTON, August 20.

A special "Gazette," published to-day, contains the accounts for the June quarter. These show that the ordinary revenue for the first quarter of the financial year totalled £1,133,839, agaimsb £1,107,421 in the corresponding quarter of last year, and the territorial -revenue amounted fr> £27,721 against £27,631. The aggregate was £1,161,560, as against £1,135,052, an increase of £26,508, while the increase in the previous year was £55,628. The Customs Department shows a decrease of £24,147, stamps £1455, and land and income tax £6BB. Thei increases were:—■ Postal £4161, beer duty £1863, railways £35,376, registration £875, marine £4Ol, miscellaneous £10,032. In the Public Works Fuad there was a balance at the beginning of the quarter of £232,516, and the proceeds of the sale of debentures brought in £1,000,514. It appears tbait 4 per cent debentures to the amount of half a million were sold in London during the quarter. The total receipts, including the balance brought forward, were £1,308,051. On the expenditure side it is shown that £417,213 was spemb on public works, against £151,640 in the corresponding quarter of last year. The expenditure on railways totalled £268,133, against £55,884,/ Temporary advances to the amount of £200,000, together with the costs of issuing the half million loans in London, and itho colonies, amounting to £4BIO, were paid, presumably out of the London issue. The expenditure and repayments . together totalled £622,023, leaving the public works fund in credit to the amount of £686,028 on June 30.
