HOSPITAL BOARD.
The ordinary meeting- of the North Canterbury Hospital Board was h«ld yesterday afternoon. Mr W.-Jacques, chairman, presided, and there were also present—Messrs J. Bennie, G. Wallace, J. Hamilton, W. Dunlop, J. G. Murray, H. ' 'H: Loughmam, G. H. M'Haffie, A. W. Rutherford, W. Rolhtt, and T. H. Davey. The 'House Committee reported that it bad Toviewed the list of requirements for fumshing the operating-room, as selected by the honorary staff, and had ordered them direct from the makers. The proposed alterations of the operating-room' had not yet assumed a definite form, andl-the question of carrying on the surgical work during the time required had not been finally determined. The committee considered that a policy of insurance against accidents to the outside employees, under the Employers Liability Act, should be obtained, and recommended that the amount should be £6OO. It also recommended that the fever ward should be insured for £6OO. TheNiontract far the new laundry was progressing satisfactorily. The committee, in -accordance with an application from the secretary, had discussed the question of his salary. After full consideration of the matter, and realising the equity of the application; it recommended that it should be increased to £350 & year. The report was adopted. 1 The Chairman stated that there had been a large influx of patients, owing partly to the presence of a large number of troops iii the city, but tbe staff 'had coped;.with tbe work very well. *'-/ Mi" Rollitt gave notice to move at: next meeting that the Board should take steps to -call a meeting of those local bodies which are interested in chronic and other cases, so that united action may be taken to bring tbe absolute necessity for providing accommodation for chronic cases, before the Government.
