Now that excitement occasioned by the Royal visit is over, more attention: is being paid to the by-election for the Christchurch seat, rendered vacant by the resignation of Mr Charles Lewis.. Mr Charles Taylor 'has been chosen by the Trades and Labour Council to standi in the labour interest. Mr W. Hoban, who was defeated on a ;provious occasion, announces his intention of standing in the interest of the licensed victuallers. Mr A. H. Turnbull has definitely decided to stand as an Independent Liberal. Now that Mr T. E. Taylor has definitely decided not' to contest the _ seat, it is probable that Mr G. J. Smith., who lost his seat at the last general election, will be a candidate.
