THE FREEHOLD TENURE.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—ln my speech on June 3 I said that the Premier had stated that the option of converting leasehold's into freeholds was bound to come. You forthwith accused me of untruthfulness. Mr Rhodes made the same statement at Aknroa. To-day you challenge us both to give our authority for the statement. You shall have it. On Oct. 3, 1900, in replying on the eeecnd reading of the Lands for Settlements Bill, Mr Seddbn said:—“l shall bring my remarks to a close by saying that the Conversion of leaseholds into freeholds is bound to come -sooner or later, and debates of this kinds simply, as it were, force the situation.” Will you be good enough to turn to “Hansard,” Vol. lia p. 659, and inform vcm-r readers whether this is so or nob?—l . CHARLES LEWIS.
