LINING THE ROUTE.

The whole of the route, traversed by the Royal procession, from the railway station, w.as lined by Volunteers and Cadets. The services of the Canterbury corps -were availed of chiefly, but they-were insufficient for the whole of the route, and a numb a - of. the visiting men were also on duty. The arrangements for this portion of the day’s proceedings were supervised by a large staff of officers, headed by Colonel Pole-Penton, Lieutecant-Oolonel Gordon, Lieutenant-Colonel Robin, C. 8., Lieutenant-Colonel Jowsey, C. 8., Lieuten-ant-Colonel Moore, Lieutenant-Colonel Slater, Major Wright, Major Day, Major Drummond, Captain J. Hughes and Captain Lewin. At the Christchurch Railway Station, the guard of honour was drawn up, comprising men from the City Guards and Imperial Rifles, under command of Captain Charlewood. 1 Along the’ South Belt the Auckland Nava!«Artillery lined the way.' ■ The Nelson, Marlborough and West' Coast Battalion had charge of Manchester Street, the corps represented being the Nelson, Stoke, Denniston, Westport, Waitohi, Reefton, Greymonth, Waimea and Blenheim Rifles. Coming on to High and Colombo Streets, the Canterbury Engineers, First North Canterbury Infantry Battalion, and South- Canterbury Infantry Battalion were to be seen, th© companies represented including the Canterbury Engineers, Ashburton Guards. Waimate Rifles, Timaru Rifles, Timaru Port Guards. Ashburton Rifles, Temuka Rifles and Geraldine Rifles, ; Christchurch Cycle Corps, Linwood Rifles and Sydenham Rifles, aa well as- a large detachment of Cadets. The North Island troops followed, along Worcester- Street and round to the Provincial Council Chambers, included in the corps being the Dannevirke, Normanville, Pahiatna and Ma-sterton Rifles, Napier Guards, Gisborne, Ranfiirly, Woodville and Waipawa Rifles, Alexandra, Wairoa, Marlborough, Wahabi, Nelson, Eketahuna and Motueka Mounted 'Rifles. .Leaving the Council Chambers, and on the road •round to Victoria Square, were the Wanganui ‘Highland Rifles, Rangitikei, Wanganui, Palmerston, Manchester and 1 Foxton Rifles, and Wanganui and Palmerston North Guards. From Victoria. Square to the Royal Residence the street was lined by cadets. ; The -guard of honour at the Provincial Council Chambers was provided by the Oivil Semce Rifles? and Highland Rifles, under Captain Fisher. At Victoria Square Captain Harper commanded the, guard, which- was composed of members, of the Christ’s College and Imperial Rifles, and at Te Koraha the guard of honour was the same as that which did duty at the railway station. The arrival of the Royal party in Christchurch was , heralded by a Royal salute, fired by the E, Battery, under the command 'of Captain' Donald.
