TBIARU.

The decorations of the Railway. Station and refreshment rooms by: Messrs Ballamtyne and Co. was proceeding apace on Saturday. Mr W. Kent, the manager’s idea is a scheme of colour throughout, a broad red, white and blue band fabrh runs along the whole length of ; the build ing, the-, space above this being covered with kharki scrim, most of which is covered with printed shields, flags, " welcome* mottoes and touches of flags. The railway carpenters have built - a ; substantial; covered platform. outside the station, -where their Royal Highnesses will stand to hear the school children sing,' arid give the crowd an opportunity to see them. This is roofed over, and will be well decorated: and set off with a few fine fern trees obtained, from Dunedin. George Street, up to the Post Office, is lightly festooned with small flag®, on lines along arid across the double line of telegraph poles, whilst ■on the poles bunches of flags; are fixed. ■ Several’ long strings of flags slope down .from the topi of the Post Office tower to telegraph polea across the street.--Around the building.run three bands of colour, bunting blue under the upper cornice, and red and white at mid height. Some bright printed-national shields • are well applied between the fvindnws. The transparencies supplied for the upper windows of the Post Office .. wepi erected in Thursday and Friday* and did credit to the local painters, Messrs Dickinson and- Griffiths. They looked even better by day than at night, and were really passable portraits. Other windows were filled with heraldic devices, and over each was fixed a bunch of flags. The scheme of decoration’ is excellent,; but the ' flags used .are -rather small for the extensive space# spanned. . , . : ■■ ■ At the request of Mr Quill, tno licensee ’of the , refreshment rooms, whose bands are full. at. Christchurch, Mr A. Budd' will proVide the Royak luncheon, and also afternoon, - tea on the train between Timaru and Dunedin. ;

DUNEDIN. [FbOM . OUB COBBISPOIfDENT.] DUNEDIN, June 22. There is a strong feeling here regarding the amended programme for the Royai! visit; to- Dunedin. ■ The visit" isn now - ' pn> , ideally restricted to one full day, and, compared with other centres, saint justio* seems to have been ..done to Dunedin. Those Who were making elaborate arrangements for a display are greatly ‘ disgusted. The “Star” says that a good deal of by no means unreasonable, soreness is felt at the alteration of the Dunedin programme. None of the other, centres have been treated in this incomprehensible fashion. Why should Dunedin be treated to such an experience? This community cheerfully fell in with all the of the finally revised programme, involving as they did considerable local arrangement* and expense. The paper inquires what i» the reason for this; muddle and apparent discourtesy, with its implied slight, on th* city and province. While the enthusiasm and loyalty of Dunedin will not be abated one jot through the severe disappointment, it is-very doubtful whether all the expense would have been gome to if it had been known beforehand that this city would only be honoured by the presence of the Royal pair "for forty hours.
