PAINTED FOOTPATHS.

TO, THE EDITOR. Sir,—One is often made uncomfortable by , the dull groyness of our streets. Would it . be an improvement, do you think, if the pavements were painted 1 grass colour? Sciinq enterprising shopkeepers might. lead 'the way. Certainly it would bo an advertisement to 'have the pleasant, restful green in* viting people into his premises. I • can 'hardly think .that the by-laws of- any municipal body would stand in his way. The Duke of Cornwall-and York would doubtless approve, and, • by-and-by, ■ the 'oppres* sive deadness of the footpaths of Londou’f) West End would gradually giye way 'to nature’s prevailing colour, the green of,:the turf. Pity, indeed, that our pavement® could not all be turfed. Bootmakers, of course, wouldiv’t see the fun of this; but they could remember that new conditicnj open up new opportunities.—l am,’etc.,. . - ' N.S.
