RETURNED SOLDIERS.
THpR CLAIM FOE; RECOGNITION. There are at present a number of ra« turned soldiers in Christchurch who, having served with other than New Zealand forces an. South Africa, appear to be m some danger of having their claims to recognition overlooked. Their position laying -liken explained to Mr W. W. Oollins, .that gentleman telegraphed to ta& Piemiei yesterday, urging that they should receive their medals at the same time as the members of the Contingents. During ths evening Mr Collins received the following. , reply: Wellington,. June 20. W. W. .Collms, M.S.R., Christchurch.—The difficulty in presenting medals to troa-p«rs,etc., of me ii>. regular ■ forces, -who have served in South, Africa, is the verification of tho service. The troopers claiming «hould send at once.- -' to the Commandant here their names,.sa that he may verify. We arc only too . pleased, when •verification' is complete, - medals should be presented. Please inform troopers accordingly.—R. J. Seddon. Mr Collins wishes the information contained in the Premier's message- made public, and will be very glad to assist any returned soldier in obta-bang t?he aacessaij; •verification.
