A MISSING MINING AGENT.
No news has yet been ascertained as to .the whereabouts of the mining agent who is alleged to have disappeared with several hundred pounds belonging to two; wejlknmvn mining companies. The examination of 'the massing agent's books as still -proceeding, but the results are as yet being kept -secret. About three weeks a.go he left this city for the south, and beyond his having been once seen since then in Dunedin, no trace has-been- found. It was supposed ifihat the two mining companies were fully guaranteed by a fidelity bond, but it is now Stated, on good authority, that the bond has lapsed. The mining community has" been naturally alarmed by the rumours, and further concern was'caused' last evening when it was stated that another mining 'agent had disappeared.
