Jones playing for Notts, and Captain Craig, for Hampshire,, each scored 249 against Sussex and Lancashire respectively. (Mr A. O. Jonea is a prominent Notts amateur, and was captain of the county team last season, when he scored 699 runs jn 28 innings, for an average of 24.96, his highest score being 155. In all first-class matches he made 888 runs, his average being 24.66. His form, however, ;was much' below that of the previous season. Captain Craig is a new man in the Hampshire team, which has long been famous for its crack military players, among the leading members of the county team being Major Poore, Captain. Wyaiyard and Captain Quinton.)
