OBITUARY.
. ; HENRY CHAMBERLAIN. The many friends of Mr Henry Chamberlain will' regret to hear of has "death,' whdch took place at his residence, Ravensworth, Lcieston, on Tuesday. Mr ChtMnberlain, who was,best known in agricultural circles, has been ailing for some months; and the end did not come unexpectedly. Although he had not taken much part inn public affairs, he was'highly respected, by all who knew him, and leaves a very large .circle of friends. Mr Chamberlain was born in England, in 1840, being the eldest" son of Mr "Peter Chamberlain, a'farmer; of Thongsleigh, near iTiv'erton,' Devon. He was educated at; Taunton, and after some farming experience in the Old Country .lie came to the colony' in 1865, arriving at Lyttelton in ;he shdp Tudor. He shortly after took up land on.the Stlwyn, which he occupied for j, few yearsj and having greatly improved che property he sold it. - He then-went into partnership with the late Mr Walter Hartnell in a butchering business, at Dunsandel, with branches at Rakaia and Ohertsey. Litter on he, took up; the weli-lai-ow'n Ellesmere Farm, and about ten. years 'jgo he paid a visit to the Old Country. iince then he purchased the Ravetnsbourne •Estate, where he resided up to the time of ,<is' death, and also added 'another 500 acres o his Ellesmere property. Mr Chamberain was twice married, first in 1875, to Mrs Jlacbean, and subsequently to- the "widow >f the late Mr Walter Hartnell, amd he .-•avesa widow iamd one daughter.
