Two lads, named Walter and Robert Adcock, aged nine , and eleven respectively, walked from Invercargill to Dunedin, without money, to see the Duke and Duchess of York. They fed on turnips, and slept in ditches, trucks,; and hayricks, and crept through the tunnels on the way. They arrived on Saturday in a sore plight. The police found them in a railway truck, and fed and made them comfortable, and raised a subscription to ro-clothe them. Several people were anxious to take charge of the lads, and Mr Roderick of the Excelsior Hotel, obtained permission to make them Ms guests for the next week or. two. ’ In the meantime their parents at Invercargill have been, communicated with. The Chairman of the'Children’s Demonstration Committee will take charge of the two lads. Many people were very anxious to subscribe for their keep, but they will be'well provided for and kept in Dunedin through, the festivities, and then sent, to their parents. The-Mayor and Mayoress called at the hospital to see the Invercargill lads. Their feet are swollen, otherwise they at© doing well. Surprise has’ been expressed that two children could walk 130 miles ini three days, practically without food. Every at- ' tention is being paid them, and they are being made the guests of the city, and will be provided with seats to view the Royal procession. .
