A MISSING MINING AGENT.
ALLEGED HEAVY DEFALCATIONS. THE BOOKS BEING EXAMINED. It was persistently rumoured tin the city on Saturday that a well-known mining agent had- absconded, with- several hundred pounds, the property of companies for. which he was secretary. It is now certain, at anyrate that he is missing, -though seen in Dunedin ten days ago. His books have been submitted to an expert accountant, and though information is as yet kept strictly private, there is said to be a deficiency. The two mining companies for which the missing agent, was secretary are fully covered by a fidelity guaranties.
