ARRIVAL OP THE STEAMER AT HOKITIKA [From Our Correspondent.] HOKITIKA, June 17. The Jane Douglas passed Okarito at dusk last evening and -anchored in the Hokitika roadstead at midnight, entering the port at nine o’clock this morning. All on board are well. Bishop Grimes is travelling north overland, and, from signals exhibited as the steamer passed Gillespie’s beach yesterday afternoon, it js surmised that has Lordship was there holding service In the little Roman Catholic chapel. Captain CouLson’s report shows that the Jan© Douglas left Hokitika on the evening of May 30, with eleven passengers, including Bishop Grimes and two ladies. The vessel arrived next day at Bruce Bay, but it was too rough to work the surf boats, and so the ship was anchored. June 1: Weather thick, landi not visible. June 2: Sea decreasing, and steamer again attemp-t----«dj to land, but was unable to -do so, and proceeded to Open Bay Island, and anchored. It waa blowing , a hard N.E. gale, with considerable sea and thick rain. June 5 j N.E. gale continued-, with incessant rain and heavy sea, Tuesday, June 4; The gale still lasted. Found the vessel was dragging her -anchor, so shifted the anchorage. June 5: Sea going down, proceeded to Jackson’s Bay, passing through thick fog. Slowed down, stopping occasionally to cast the lead 1 , -sounding seven fathoms. At moon anchored in bay and landed mail®, passengers and part of the cargo. Next day landed the balance of cargo, proceeded to Okuxa, arriving at 11 a.m. on June 7. River in flood after heavy rain. June .8 : Weather cleared, but bar rough. Jun© 9; Loadted sheep, but could not float the ship. June 10: Attempting to work the ship afloat. June 11 1 Discharged sheep, failed to heave off. June 12: Refloated ship, but too much sea to work the bar. June 15 1 Northerly gale; river in flood. June 14; Weather cleared. Heavy sea rolling in; loaded sheep. Juno 15 1 Sailed for Brace Bay, working Puniga on the way up, unable to land cargo at Bruce Bay. June 16: No siwi of chance of landing; steamed! for Hokitika, arriving as reported. The passengers report having had a very rough experience, and a trying trine under Open Bay Island, when the ship dragged her anchor.
