Should the capital be raised, the Government wib grant a subsidy .of £150,000 towards the working 'or this rick’and deep flat. 'Many of the dredges -are, resuming work, and a number of new ones’ are rapidly nearing completion, the season thus opening with bright prospects for shareholders." West Coast stock is still affected; by the delays in the working of some'of the-principal dredges, hut the “ aead wbrk” should soon be oyer now, and a steady market follow. . The ■ Maori Queen dredge will be formally taken over by the. company at the end-of .‘this month, when the.-first returns will be-eagerly looked forward to. The statutory meeting of the Straits Settlements Dredging «md Prospecting Company was held on -Friday, at 183, Hereford Street. The Chairman. reported "that Mr Palmer, the company’s representative,- had arrived at Singapore, and was ready ,to commence securing ground for working. Reports from the districts in the Straits showed great possibilities in the way of successful’ tin mining, and that dredging was the most economical and practical way of saving the tin, which exists in largo quantities. It was hoped that ■a cable announcing that ground had been taken up would shortly be received. The Chairman also stated that there were still some available shares to be taken up. The following directors were elected;—'Messrs W. Walton, H. H. Hayward, N. G. Handier and Dr Jennings. Mr A. P. Harper was appointed secretary. The directors held a meeting later in the evening, and made a call l of £1 per share, and it was decided that the share-list should remain open for a time to, enable -the brokers, Messrs Magnus and Paterson, to place the remaining shares. .. ■ : ■ -
