HARNESSING THE WAIMAKARIRI.
The Special Committee appointed at the public meeting held in Canterbury Hall, to investigate and-report on the question of harnessing the Waimakariri, met in the City Coucil Chamber on Wednesday evening. There was a good attendance, and the Mayor presided. Mr -Dobson explained the two schemes proposed, and favoured the' Gorge Bridge scheme It was decided to ask the City Council to have made a detailed survey of the headworks, or of such portion of them as .would, enable an .expert outside the colony to form an opinion on the feasibleness of tht scheme. The comrpittee decided to visit the site bn Thursday, and to ask the Selwyn County Council,.and as many of the City Councillors as could do so, to accompany them on their-visit of inspection.*
