UNITED FIRE BRIGADES’ DEMONSTRATION.
A meeting of the Entertainment Committee in connection with the United Fire Brigades’ Demonstration was held at the City Council Chambers on Tuesday evening. Dr Jennings was an the chair. The tender of the Christchurch Garrison and Stan more brass bands, to play at the church parade, were accepted. The programme for Demonstration Week was -arranged as follows:—A church parade will be held at the Cathedral on the morning of Feb. 24, and in the afternoon the visiting firemen will be taken to Sumner, and entertained by the residents. On Monday the Conference will be opened, and the visitors will be welcomed by the Mayor of Christchurch. For the evening, a smoke concert has been, arranged by the management of the Christchurch Working Men’s Club. On Tuesday morning the Conference will be continued, and the visitors have been invited Dix Gaiety Company to attend the company’s entertainment at the Opera House in the evening. On Wednesday, the firemen will have an opportunity of inspecting the city, as the Conference will not sit, and in the evening a grand torchlight procession of the Christchurch and Railway Brigades will march through the city to Lancaster Park, where an attractive programme of fireworks and sports will be carried out. On Tuursday morning the competition at Lancaster Park will begin, and in the evening :a boating excursion, with fireworks, will leave the Canterbury Rowing Club’s shed. The competition will be continued on Friday, and in the evening of that day there will be a banquet and presentation of prizes. Entries from forty-nine brigades have been received .for the competition. [
