A SAD FATALITY.
A YOUNG WOMAN TAKES CARBOLIC ACID. [Per Press Association.] GISBORNE, Feb. 12. A sad fatality is reported from Teararoa, in the East Cape district. A young woman named Miss Biddell, a sister of Mr Biddell, a much-respected sheep farmer, is stated to have taken carbolic acid, and died from the effects. A later message states that Mr'Biddell communicated with the police at Awanui by letter, in which he stated that he regretted to inform the constable that his sister had died from the effects of carbolic acid, which she had taken. He further asked that the constable should come on to Teararoa, and bring a doctor, as there was no medical officer available. Constable Smith could not comply with the latter request, but has himself left for Teararoa. The occurrence has cast a gloom over that part of'the district. The deceasedarrived from England about a month ago.
