CHRISTCHURCH DRAINAGE BOARD.
A meeting of the Christcburch Drainage Board was held yesterday afternoon; present—Messrs R. W. Taylor (in the chair), E. Smith, C. Burgess, W. E. Samuels, G. M'lntyre and C. Palairet. An apology for absence was received from Mr John Deans. The Chairman rep6rte'd that some of the members of the Board, who had visited tha sewage farm, on Jan. 22, had been very much pleased with the improvements which had been made. They recommended' that the Board should sanction the distribution of artesian well water to the paddocks, for the use of the cattle.
The Secretary and . Treasurer's report stated that the amount of rates received since last meeting was £1907 0s 3d, and the amount received from other sources £176 10s 4d. The expenditure was £352 12s lid, the 1899 rate outstanding £126 12s Bd, the 1900 rate outstanding £5860 5s 9d. the 1900 rate collected £15,600 2s lid. The debit balance at the bank was £lB 15s sd. There was a surplus of £1374- 7s 5d for 1900, and, as in future each district would bear its own burden, the uncollected rates and surplus would go to liquidate the bank overdraft. The Board promised to consider the matter. A petition was received, signed by a number of ratepayers,. asking that the drain on Cemetery Road might be deepened by at.

A letter was read from the City Council, expressing a- hope that the Board would review its decision regarding the completion of the. Lincoln Road drain, in view-sof tha fact that the City Council, in contributing £2OO, did so believing that the whole of-the drain would be covered ait..- The Secretary was instructed to ri port as to cost. ' The Sydenham Borough 'Council wrote with regard to the, unsatisfactory state ol the Lincoln Road drain at White's Corner. It was decided to attend to the matter. The Board then rose. ■'..,'
