MIDLAND RALLWAY COMMISSION.
RESIGNATION OF MR BACK. [Per. Pkkss AssociATroN-.] WELLINGTON, Feb. 11. At this morning's meeting of the Midland Railway Commission, Mr Back announced that he had resigned his scat on the Commission. He explained that his leave of absence from Tasmania expired during the present month, and as he found that the Commission would be sitting in March and part of April, he had deemed it necessary to send in his resignation. Mr Dalston, formerly General Manager of the Midland Railway Company, produced two returns, showing the sums which had reached the Receiver and Company from the sale of land granted to the company by the Crown. The total amount was £312,125, for 375, 692 J; acres. The area remaining unsold totalled acres, in the Westland and Canterbury districts. The Commission will sit again to-morrow, receive further returns prepared by the Public Works and Railway Departments, and will leave on Wednesday for Nelson, whence they will proceed to make an inspection of the Belgrove-Motupiko section of the railwav.
